A Good Clean Cry

I'm an efficient wreck of late, feeling as if things are just this side of out of control. I'm walking the fine line and the edge is hurting my toes. But here's the thing: a blogger friend, the beautiful Karen of Gberger posted this video of Eva Cassidy singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

I'm usually not a mush, but I had what I call a good clean cry over it. It comes from the gut and it's not about sorrow. It's about a washing away and letting go.

Here it is:

  1. I'm so glad that you got something good from this. I worry about bringing people down when I share my sadness, sometimes, but then I remember that it's MY blog and I can post what I like. Also, what helps me seems to help others, & so I'm happy that this was a blessing to you. I'm thinking of you and your beautiful family. I hope that things ease up a bit for you. God bless you!

  2. This song always takes me back to a time of complete innocence in my life -- to before Oscar was born, when Abe was 4 months old and the owner of the local jazz cafe serenaded him. It is also reminds me of the numerous losses a good friend has endured in her life. It's a beautiful song and those cries can be so cleansing. I hope you can ease a few inches away from the edge soon.

  3. Thank you both! Karen, I understand your comment about feeling conflicted when posting to your blog. I, too, have to remember that it's MY blog! Thank goodness for that, right?

  4. I'm sorry you're having a rough time. I can relate. I can't even write.

I wish we lived closer. Maybe we could grab a cup of coffee and cry in it together.

I hope things settle down soon, and big strong hand guides you away from that edge.

  8. she's amazing, isn't she? i hate the think of her dying so young. and of the crushing insecurity she was said to have about her singing. odd how one's self-perceptions can be so off-base.

sending xx to you. a cleansing cry is so important.
