I Don't Miss Snow

The thing is Los Angeles does have season changes. It's cold out here right now, relatively speaking, and we had some soaking rain all day yesterday and Friday. The air was crisp and clear today, after the rain, and the mountains ringing the city (mountains that are often covered by haze so when they appear it's like a miracle, like someone put them there overnight!) are tipped in snow. The palm trees in the foreground and the blue of the sky with those snow-tipped peaks are astounding in their sharpness and give me a sense of exhilaration. I live HERE, I think!

Dust of Snow
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

  1. I miss snow. I love it. So white, crisp and bright. When I was a child I used to pretend it was God washing the earth. (the snow was the soapsuds) When it eventually melts, everything looks so clean and fresh.
It brightens everything up. I wish it would snow like it used to when I was a girl....

  2. My father-in-law always tells us that we live in Paradise, and he is right. I think the weather is perfect here and there are seasonal changes indeed.

It's so funny though how people freak out when it rains :) They get flabbergasted and confused by this strange phenomena - water falling out of the sky :)

  4. I love that poem.

We don't just have snow, oh no, we also get to set records. We were the coldest place in North America on Saturday night, -58C with the windchill factor. yay.

  5. Awesome picture!

When I lived in South Florida and people would criticize the climate for being too much the same, we explained that we had seasons too: snowbird season, stone crab season, diving season and hurricane season.

I LOVED that winter mean putting on a long-sleeved shirt with my shorts.

A few years ago we moved and now that I'm menopausal, I love the cooler winters of Central Texas home. Guess it's all about how we look at it...

  6. I can't believe you live there either. Just think, if I lived in California I could be close to my best friend, Candi AND drop by and meet you! I love the Frost poem. I always love a Frost poem. I love that his name even sounds like a poem.
