Brava!! What a great piece--it really resonated with me--particularly the opening, feeling that sense of change and remove from another self.

Happy Belated Birthday! It seems a good time was had by all.

Wonderful essay. Of course we're defined by our relationships -- it's only through those relationships that we become who we are. We can't speculate on what might have been if things had been different -- we cannot know who that person would have been. I love your reflection on the person you've become because of Sophie, the person you are to your whole family.

Beautifully written, Elizabeth!! This is the first time I have posted a comment. I enjoy your blog and reading about your family, your struggles, your triumphs, and especially your beautiful Sophie. I have 4 children, all adopted from Korea, two with special needs. I found you on Hopeful Parents, which has been an encouragement to me often. Thanks for sharing your heart!
