Sophie's Birthday: Part 2 and 3 (I know! So privileged!)

PART 2

I brought those cupcakes that you saw yesterday to Sophie's class, and we had a party. Every time I visit Sophie's class, I am reminded that despite the relative shabbiness of her school and the convoluted, ineffective and ridiculous larger school system, Sophie has a life here, and it is a warm and happy one.

Happy Birthday to Sophie

Oliver insisted on getting out of school a little early to come celebrate.

Two seniors from the high school brought Sophie balloons and sang Happy Birthday to her. I thought I was on the set of Glee. I'm not kidding.

Sophie's teacher, Mr. Jackson, sang to her. He's a musician and I believe Sophie is a tiny bit in love with him.

Evidently, Sophie is mesmerized when he sings Jack Johnson. Good to know.

Oliver kept busy helping out the other students with their word puzzles.

PART 3

Back at the ranch, we had another birthday celebration with The Husband and Henry. We ate a delicious dinner and then lit candles once again and sang Happy Birthday. All in all, it was a fantastic day.

Happy Birthday, Sophie!

  1. One can look at beautiful Sophie and see that she knows love!! It was nice to get a glimpse into what is obviously a caring place. And, that Oliver getting out of school early--always ready to make a sacrifice!!

Again, wish Sophie (another) happy birthday and tell her that I believe one should celebrate for an entire month!!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  2. Wow, that was a great bunch of celebrating! Those cupcakes are gorgeous, and Sophie looked so pretty for her classroom celebration, with her scarf. Her school does look like a good, busy place.

    Happy Birthday to Sophie!

  6. Sophie is so loved, and I think I might be a tiny bit in love with her teacher, too. Probably a good idea that he never sings to me:) Seriously, that school scene is divine.

  18. If the school needs fundraising ideas I think they should consider event planning. I know I would love to have my own birthday celebration with Sophie's class! A champagne toast is all that was missing. Do you think that Jack Johnson strumming teacher could get his hands on a liquor license?
