The Downside of Urban Living

Sometimes I resent the kind of parenting discussions these kinds of billboards provoke. I wish that I lived in the halcyon days when I might have barked, That's a dirty sign, boys. Don't even look at it because you might go blind.

In addition, I wish I'd gotten the price of gas in the photo out here on the freewheelin' west coast. Last time I filled up my fairly eco-conscious vehicle, it cost me $75.00.

I don't know which is more obscene, frankly.

I do love the word frank -- no pun intended.

  1. Intended or not, it was a perfect pun!

My head is slightly higher above the water at this point, and I am humbly returning to say hello and send a big hug across the ethernet. Hope you and yours are well.

  2. Franks and beans. My favorite kind of beans (Bush, Vegetarian) were on sale at the Publix today. Buy one, get one free.
How DO you raise kids in California? It's such a cool place but...kids are kids.
I know you rock at it. I know you do.

  4. While I agree the sign is 'out there' and it must be challenging to raise your boys seeing this stuff, I thank God the days are over when you hear about going blind with respect to 'dirty' sexual anything.. The gas price is frankly much more hideous to me. My father's name was Frank.

  5. I suppose those parenting discussions are inevitable anyway, aren't they? It's an eye-catching billboard -- gotta give some credit to the ad agency on that one!

  6. My son was sick & I couldn't handle any more Nick Jr so it was my turn to catch up with my backlog of Daily Shows. I ended up having to explain what Driving While Black meant. Nick Jr. suddenly seemed like a great idea again.

  7. Billboards and older family members (cousins, siblings, uncles) - those are the bane of my existence from time to time. I much prefer having these conversations to talking about war, gas prices, or drive-by shootings, though. Give me STD education any day!
