Books & Bakes

My little sister Jennifer is here visiting. She's got that thing, that touch, that know what you're doing as far as arranging a wall of paintings, throwing cool fabric over old furniture kind of thing. That's what she's been doing all day.

Tonight is my monthly Books & Bakes salon. Saint Mirtha had an unexpected emergency, so I'm going a little nutso in the kitchen. I'll post my menu and all that good stuff later tonight or tomorrow morning, if I'm still alive. We read J. Ryan Stradal's novel Kitchens of the Great Midwest. It was an entertaining read with great food scenes. Lutefisk is involved. Look that up and try to imagine this one-half Italian, one-quarter Syrian and one-quarter Scotch English gal serving it.

I hope your Friday is going well. It's still hot as hell here in southern California. Thank the good lord Jesus for air-conditioning.

  1. My friend Anna is from one of those Norway states. Minnesota? She knows what Lutefisk is. I've never had it and after hearing Garrison Keillor talk about it for years, I'm not sure I ever want to. But. I would definitely try yours.
Thank god for sisters. Your house looks beautiful!
And hell yes- thank the sweet baby Lord Jesus and even more realistically, John Gorrie (from Apalachicola), for air conditioning.
    Amen and hallelujah.

  2. I looked up Lutefisk. No thanks.

You might enjoy this link about Lutefisk.

    1. Thank you for that link -- hilarious and very, very apt! (Now that I've actually tasted it)

  3. Love the gallery wall! Not just the positioning but the artwork as well. Such a neat picture with her peeping over her shoulder on the side there :)

And oh yes, thank the universe twice over for AC!

  4. The wall looks great. I so admire people who can pull a room together, as they say. The fish, I'll pass. You're really going out on a limb with that one. Hope you had fun! Our days have been in the low 100s...I have escaped to Santa Cruz for a couple of days and brought the heat with me. Very uncharacteristic -- and they don't even have air conditioning here! Argh!

  5. Omgoodness, please write about the lutefisk experience. Gregg is 1/2 Norwegian, and my MIL made it for us when we were newlyweds. I suspected it was a bit of a test, and ate it.

  6. That wall is gorgeous, and amen on the air conditioning. I live in heat and humidity of 90 yet...
