The Oliver Dessert (graphic photo follows)
Last night, I bent over Oliver to kiss him good-night. He said, This is the last night I'll be eight years old.
Yes, I replied, and this is the last time I'll kiss my eight year old son.
Nine years ago today, I gave birth to my beautiful third child, Oliver, who I liked to call my dessert. It doesn't seem possible that nearly a decade is gone, and as each year passes I think to myself, hoping against hope, he's still really little, he's only six, he's only seven, he's only eight. I'm not sure I can say he's only nine! He's NINE? I just can't believe it, really.
In lieu of a long birthday celebration, I'll give you this link to click because I think I captured my Oliver, my dessert, last year quite well.
Happy Birthday, Big O. I love you so!
Happy Birthday to your handsome big O!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a kid! I love your post from last year about him. Does he still want to be a mailman? Steady work, that.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to him and happy birth-day to you.
Love...M
You make delicious looking children! I adore Oliver's personality! Happy birthday to a unique, and still little, boy.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I've been lurking on your blog and enjoy it a good deal. Your IEP/education struggles so remind me of our (mostly) futile efforts to get our son a proper placement. Good luck and keep laughing - I do find it my one saving grace.
ReplyDeleteMy mailwoman is one of the best people I know. Oliver is a gym.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to a handsome and special boy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Oliver Dessert! as you know I have an almost 9 yr old youngest child too - it's very bittersweet as the milestones go by - ahhhhhh
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA I meant gem. Although I suppose a kid like that might give you a workout.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Oliver !!
ReplyDeleteand wishes for bunches of love on your birthing day, Elizabeth.
I loved that post you pointed me to. Your son is fabulous. His spirit is strong and true. Those photos just burst with life.
He is beautiful. And to see the two pictures, it does something to the mind and heart - it can not be that they grow so, can it? My boy is eight. Only eight. And so we hold fast and pour our love into them through the ears when they're not looking.

Happy Birthday, handsome, big 9-year-old Oliver! That's a wonderful age to be...enjoy each day.
ReplyDeleteThis kid is amazing. I just read the post from last year. I think it is one of my favorites of yours yet. I want to meet this child. Looks like I may be able to!
ReplyDeleteChange of plans. We are coming to LA to see Amma. I just booked our retreats. We arrive June 8 or 9 into LA for some family time and then we go see Amma at the airport Hilton June 14 for the week. We will be there the entire time, public program (free) June 14 and 15, and retreat - a cost, June 16 - 18. The program the evening of June 18 goes all night, well into the next morning, and is open to the public for free. Let's talk if you want to bring the kids. My kids would love to meet your kids and I can help you with Sophie.
Happy Birthday. My boy will be seven in August. "Just" seven. I love that you call him your dessert!
ReplyDeletei love this.
ReplyDeleteyour oliver dessert.
what child would not love growing up knowing the place he holds in your heart.
I've been reading your blog for awhile but never before commented. This time though I can't help it: from the mother of one Oliver to another -- Happy Birth day to both of you. Time passes too quickly, doesn't it? Every day I wonder if today is the last time I will pick my own, nearly 8, Oliver up!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY! Man, he is one handsome kid :)
ReplyDeleteThe face of an angel. I read last year's post. Oh my, he is one of a kind! How do you keep a straight face?

ReplyDeleteSorry, that's my deleted comment. Typo. Hate 'em.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what I wanted to write was:
