Checking in from the hot zone

I'm still here, barely.

It's hotter than the lowest level of Dante's hell.

We've been circling one of those layers, Sophie and I, each night since we've been here. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything but I'm not going to elaborate. If someone asked me whether I had a good night, this is what I'd say:

Last night was the night I became an atheist.

On the bright side, The Husband is flying in for relief, and the boys are ecstatically happy.

I have a mess of photos to post but the internet is down and a few of the keys on this computer are gone.

Talk to you soon.

  1. You so need a new computer (a Mac), amongst other things. Start with a stiff drink and something full of fat and sugar.

  2. Can't even think of a smart-ass comment ... hope it gets better and The Husband makes all the difference!

  3. I'm here to second what both Carrie and Single Dad had to say!! Heat, humidity and no sleep make one a--well, I'm sure you know. Hope you have some relief in all areas soon.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  6. I'm so sorry. What a drag. I'm glad that you have "reinforcements" on the way, and I hope tha means you get a day or two to truly relax and take care of yourself. Spa? Massage? Lowbrow book or movie? Whatever REST means to you, I wish it for you. xoxo

  10. Do you have no air conditioning? Jesus. I live here and I would die without it.

  11. I was thinking of you this morning while I was driving to Austin at sunrise. One purple cloud had a glowing yellow-pink outline and I hoped that today nature gave you a little something beautiful too.

  15. Well, since you are (temporarily) an atheist, (and I've been in those places where God seems so utterly absent) would you mind if I just stepped in and asked Him to give you and Sophie some rest? And may I add my hug to all the others? I'm sorry things are bad right now. Hoping for relief for you, SOON!

  17. Hi there--I'm back online. Power went out on Sunday afternoon after terrifying thunderstorm, during which our neighbor's 50 ft black locust came across the back fence, across our new deck, missing our car, missing the cantilevered supports under the kids' bedroom, and brushing the side of our house with its top 8-10 feet of leaves and branches. Power restored two hours ago, and here I am, checking in on how you're doing and noting that YOU'RE HOT!!!!! I can empathize. ER today with Robert for heat-related complications--home now and grateful. Hope your vacation goes well and that you have a fab, fab time.
