I collapsed on my bed this afternoon and picked up a literary journal lying next to it that I've been meaning to read. I opened it up randomly and began reading -- what else -- an essay, exceptionally well-written, by a man in his sixties with severe cerebral palsy. I got about halfway through the essay before realizing that I wasn't reading a journal specifically about disability but had, in fact, opened to the only essay in it about disability. And I realized that I'm tired of that. I'm tired, today, of that sort of luck.
It's time for that glass of wine
ReplyDeleteEver considered vampires for some light Halloween reading? The Sookie Stackhouse, TrueBlood series by Charlaine Harris is pretty wild & entertaining. I got hooked on it the first book. Fun, escapist reading with lots of sex and mythical creatures. Who could ask for more??
ReplyDeleteHang in there, girlie. Sending you a big ole Southern, "Poor Baby" and Blessings! xo
I don't blame you.
ReplyDeleteLet's find you a good trashy novel.
Yes. A glass of wine.
ReplyDeleteThanks, all! I will have a glass of wine, but admit to a lot of literary snobbery -- meaning trashy books make me more depressed and I don't know why, but I'm NOT into vampires! I appreciate your efforts, though!
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised you're tired. You can get enough of misfortune. There are times we all need to switch off - glass of wine, trashy book, movie, ice cream, a sleep, your kids whatever. Switch off.
ReplyDeletegod i hear you. i have gone through times where i feel that i am cursed to be magnetized to some dark thing, however it expresses itself, in magazines, movies, music, a blurb, a comment, whatever.
ReplyDeleteEver read Amy Hemple's "reasons to live"? There's a line "omens that big have to be ignored". Words to live by, sometimes.
