Reminder (one of my favorite quotes)

Jacob wrestling the Angel

In curing, we are trying to get somewhere, we are looking for answers. In curing, our efforts are specifically designed to make something happen. In healing, we live questions instead of answers. We hang out in the unknown. We trust the emergence of whatever will be. We trust the insight will come. The challenge in medicine is not the choice between one and the other. We need both.

  1. And I think that Western culture forgets that truth so often. I love the very words, "curandera and midwife." These are healers and deliverers of life. We so often use doctors here when what we need is a healer.

  2. A subtle nuance, but so significant. We could have a big dialogue about what healing means, when cure is not on the horizon. God bless you. xoxoxo

  3. Very nice! I think that curing has this connotation of "fixing" as well, whereas healing feels more like we know things won't be the same afterwards, but they will be better.

  4. I never gave alternative medicine any thought until I used it for my horses. I have used acupuncture often on a few of them and last year I used a Chinese herbalist for a horse which lost his hair. He was diagnosed with alopecia and it was recommended I put him down. A blogging friend directed me to the herbalist she had used for a horse several years ago. Long story short, the horse has his hair back and is fine.

It would probably be wise if I considered this for myself as well.

  5. I find that there are Drs. who do agree and even have the treatments themselves. Healing comes in many forms. I too like your quote! Cathy

  6. You reminded me of this a while back when I was having a hard time with Mia. I remember it lifted some of the weight of that day.

    Thank you for the reminder.

  7. Definitely feeling this quote. Thank you. *hugs*
Can you give me some insight into what other methods you are suggesting to me besides medications?

  8. Oh, I am writing that in my journal, on the same page as this quote:

Healing does not mean going back to the way things were, but rather allowing what is now to move us closer to God. Ram Dass

  9. I love this quote.

Life is much too complicated to ever be "answered" or "cured." When I think of the word healing I think of a continual ability to return to our wholeness, no matter what the outward circumstances.

    Thank you for sharing!
