It needs to be said

that it's gloriously warm here in Los Angeles with a clear blue sky and blooming Meyer lemons outside my back door. The Husband picked all the tangerines off the tangerine tree that are too sour and seedy to eat, but he's making jam with them. The lettuce has been picked from the garden, and the chard and artichokes are coming along. I've got on a tee-shirt and a sweater is tied around my waist for later when it cools down. It's January 18th, and I'm grateful to live here.

  1. Ah, the joy of a sunny day, especially in winter. It feels like such a bonus.

  2. I'm sitting here in corduroy slacks, thick tights, wool socks and a heavy turtleneck sweater. Outside my window, the snow is hanging around and it's lightly doing something.

    Please send lemons.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  3. I'm happy for you (she says, looking out at a gray sky, gray water, wet deck and 40-ish temperatures) - your climate is a wonderful thing!
Having citrus trees in your own yard and fresh things to eat growing in JANUARY? A miracle.

  4. Ironically, or not really...I was just going to post a photo of my Meyers Lemons which are plentiful this year. I love my tree and have spent hours juicing and freezing in ice cube trays....Enjoy it all year long...are you sure we are not twins separated at birth?

  5. I said the very same thing in my post from last night.Lucky, aren't we?Does wonder for the psyche during the tough times.I remember vividly during our lengthy NICU and chemo days, that I would venture outside, when she had fallen asleep and just tilt my face to the sky and soak in the sun.Healing on some days.

    The jam sounds absolutely yummy.

  7. Today, in New York? We are having a full day of sleet and freezing rain. It is a giant grey slushie outside. So in my mind? I'm moving in with you. You don't mind, right?

  9. It does not need to be said, not to those suffering through feet of snow and fricking cold temps. I want to weep.

  12. Ahh. Such a day is a long way off for me. Snow day from school yesterday, and likely another storm coming in tomorrow night. No lemons or lettuce here!
