It's pouring

I swear to god that this'll be my last super-negative post for a while. Henry has about the worst case of chicken pox that we've ever seen. We've had to cancel our spring break trip (a week in D.C. with my little sister and her family) -- something the boys and I have looked forward to for months.

We're all bummed and sad, and I don't feel like writing anything, actually.

Help me, Rhonda.

No sympathy needed, but I might start mainlining heroin or something.

  1. Oh. So the second case in the house IS the worst. Damn.
Keith Richards seemed to like heroin quite a bit....
    I am SO sorry.

  2. Well crap. Sometimes when you make those hard calls, there is some relief in making the call -- however hard -- at least that decision is made.

  3. I am soooo sorry about the chicken pox. (I had a very bad case when I was 7 and was in the hospital for 2 weeks.)

I am sorry you had to cancel your trip and VERY sorry about the meeting with the Powers that Be described below. Not cool.

    Hope everyone else stays healthy.

  4. O.ver.whel.ming. I am so, so sorry this has happened. The only thing good I can think of about this is the fact that you didn't get on the airplane FIRST, and THEN discover he had the c-pox. Being sick away from home sucks big-time...but being sick & missing your vacation is not good, either.
I hope the airline will refund your tickets so you can go when all is well, and I hope that NO ONE ELSE catches it!
This sounds like a good night to watch "The Big Lebowski" or "Big Fat Liar," or something else that is futile and stupid & will make you laugh.
Why in heaven's name do they not want Sophie to be part of your presentation of her needs? If the judge is "virtual," you could have had the meeting at your house, and they could actually SEE what you are saying. And they could have the bonus of the pox, too. (Okay, that last line was uncalled-for.)

  5. Maybe some super-red lipstick like the photo, and a stroll with the poodle, if you can get away for an hour. And I'm still hoping Sophie did or will have an imperceptibly light, but effective, case...

Heroine would be too expensive .... And your herbalist would be angry

  7. Crap - the best laid plans and I'll bet poor Henry is just miserable! Sending positive thoughts your way E, for a fast recovery. Hey look on the bright side, bake more cakes and post more pictures of them!

I hope we never get the pox.

  11. It's a cruel world sometimes, and some times are worse than others. Hopefully it'll start to look up soon.

  12. Your posts don't feel negative to me. Life just happens like a hurricane sometimes and you have to hang on for dear life and if writing it out helps, then go for it. Your friends want to know so we can beam love to you. Poor Henry. Hang on Elizabeth. You will get through this.

  13. I would agree with the wine. You aren't negative, that would be me. : ) You have every right to be disappointed. Poor child, I hope he gets better soon and that Sophie will be OK. Hang in there, it has to get better, right?

  14. Couldn't you just start off with something milder, like weed? They give out medical marijuana cards like student I.D.'s out there in California, don't they? Get yourself hooked up with one, go to one of those awesome stores, pick out your stuff of choice and go from there.

The H is wickedly hard to kick.

And while you're at it, get me one of those cards too. ;)

And my captcha word was 'woobles', which is, ironically, what you will have after you've had your first hit or two.

  15. Okay so here we go... skip the heroin - too hard to get off of. Raining - make this soup recipe ( delicious and ww friendly)

Then get a ton of movies you've been dying to see...some for you some for the kids.... do what you can't do because you are normally too busy to do it... and with the money you are not spending on Washington buy and drink lots of really good white and red wine... just as Heather suggests! hoping sophie's skin stays clear.....

  16. I hope that Henry feels better soon. Chicken pox can be pretty awful. And I'll miss the chance to meet you--well, someday!

  17. Grrrrrr. I have given up on planning vacations with this crew. We are always snotting or poxing or fracturing or seizing when the time comes to leave. I am so sorry about your trip...sniff....terrible. PS I sold a polka dot rain outfit like this in my ETSY shop this year! From the 1960's and never opened.

  18. this is not sympathy. it is empathy. i know what it's like to have just a little bit of hope, of looking forward to something for a change, and have that taken away at the last minute. it stinks. i'm so sorry henry is so sick. i have a friend who developed severe chicken pox as an adult, and who was helped trememdously by an antiviral. is this an option for henry?

  19. I'm so so sorry!! And like Leslie said, this is empathy not sympathy. I know you were looking forward to that trip with the boys. I am hyper-alert and have panic attacks every time we are about to leave town because I fear something will threaten the trip, and that one thing I was looking forward to will turn to dust just like that.
