Beach Monday

It was all glorious, every bit of it. Even the too-old men in their too-skimpy brief bathing trunks. And the mothers from another planet in their tiny bikinis and perfectly flat stomachs, babies on their hips.

The ocean was freezing cold, like always, but we went in a bit anyway.

The Mermaid felt the usual magnetic pull of the Pacific, nearly running toward the water.

I really just can't pick one photo of The Mermaid from this series. The pink hat, the top -- her delicate hands and face -- she looked divine, so here you go:

  2. Nice way to start the week. I love that pink Sophie is wearing, the color of fuchsias, one of my favorite plants.

  3. Divine indeed.

Don't you hate those skinny mommies and their flat tummies?I keep telling myself... but have they had 6 babies?Somehow that makes me feel better, knowing that some of them, very might well have.

Crossed a thing off the bucket list thanks to you:Whimsic Alley. @ more being crossed off Wednesday as we head to LA.

  7. I'm glad you didn't ask us to choose a favorite either. I do love that mop of beautiful curls underneath the hat!

  8. I'm so jealous that you live by the ocean, that you can go there so easily. Sophie looks lovely.

  9. In the photos you post of Sophie she always appears so gentle and serene. What wonderful qualities to posses.

  10. well, i really love #9 and #14. #11 is great too, though, and i love the contrast of pink and turquoise in #8... okay, you're right. it's too hard to choose a favorite.

(i can't imagine the water being cold. the gulf at this time of year is like warm bath water - not very refreshing when the air temp is 95 with 90% humidity!)

  11. she always tugs at my heart when her
footsteps take her to the edge of the mysterious sea...

  12. What a wonderful day...the sea, sun and sand, your observations, the photographs. I say this all of the time, but it's true: your family is beautiful.

  14. She reminds me of my daughter. She is so bendy. My daughter can hyper-extend and sit cross legged like that. She can also bend her hands and fingers back all the way to her wrist. It is part of an NF diagnosis but she has made it work as she dances highland.

  15. Oh, i love these photographs. And yes, I especially love the ones of Sophie, so elegant, so attuned to some inner symphony of the sea, and that gorgeous pink. But you know, there is something so darn adorable about sturdy Oliver cavorting in the background. ying and yang. and it touches my heart, too, because what it says to me is that sophie has backup. always. in her brothers. love you, elizabeth. your children are exquisite.

  17. I love these photos Elizabeth. I love the way she sits and it is like a mermaid, her feet crossed as if it were fins and a tail. She is beautiful, so delicate and small and sweet. It looks like you had so much fun together too. I wish I had seen you when you were in Ojai. I live so near there. Let me know if you come up again!
