Quote of the Day

LBJ [Lyndon Baines Johnson] wasn't nice and he didn't care about consensus. It's time for a mean, vindictive SOB on the Dem side.

  1. Amen, sister! As a Texan, I always loved LBJ, in all his SOB glory. I know that he was a manipulater, I know that everybody blames him for Vietnam, but damn it, he was a DOER. And I truly adored Lady Bird.

BTW, there's an incredible book, I might say it's one of my favorite books, called "The Gay Place" by Billy Lee Brammer. You may only be able to find it in the library now. It's a novel about Texas politics in the late '50s, and there's a character based on LBJ that is WONDERFUL.You MUST read it.

  2. Yep, either someone who plays hardball like LBJ or who works the political game as intuitively as Bill Clinton. I won't even bother trying to conjure up the ghost of FDR. I'm not at all sanguine about how things are going.

  3. Being of the Vietnam generation I always despised LBJ. Kudos to Lady Bird, though.

  4. You know, Elizabeth, I think if no agreement is reached, there are constitutional grounds for the president to simply raise the debt ceiling by executive order so as not to default on our public debts, which is is constitutionally forbidden to do. Scholars and pundits are arguing this point vociferously, but Obama is a constitutional scholar, and I'm willing to bet he has already figured out how the constitution can ride to the rescue in the event that the GOP continues to crucify the american people by their refusal to raise the taxes of billionaire oil tycoons and the like, proposing to cut medicare programs instead. I am so mind-boggled i cannot even hold their heartlessness in one thought. My brain explodes.

    there is sweetness still.
    love to you.
