Cotillion

Oliver and one of his oldest friends

The ancient rite of dance and manners has swung round again.

Henry and Oliver went to their first cotillion of the season, and despite their propensity for jock-i-ness, they loved dressing up. I felt so proud of my two handsome boys, I nearly burst. The only trouble was that I could not get a non-goofy photo.

  1. Has there ever been a human who regrets learning how to dance?

  2. My heart overflows, looking at these photos of your precious, handsome boys! Thank goodness that some social elegance and grace is still being taught. The ability to dance is a lifelong gift and source of pleasure for those who receive & enjoy it. Well done, Mom!

p.s. I love the last photo with the scurrying apparition of a school girl rubbernecking at your goofballs

  7. They look soooooooo handsome. Really. I completely understand why you would be bursting with pride.

My girls did cotillion and I remember being jealous of the ease at which the boys slipped into their dance attire. Many of my daughters' girlfriends were getting updos, manicures, pedicures, and a new dress for each dance. I found the entire experience exhausting, emotionally and financially.

  9. This is fantastic. I'm trying to get my eats-pasta-with-his-fingers son to go to cotillion, but I'm too late for this year. He's firmly against it. Ah well. Maybe next year.

  10. Your boys look like characters from a fantastically witty 80's movie. Or a Wes Anderson film.
