I'd forgotten how much I love Annie Dillard

We wake, if we ever wake at all, to mystery, rumors of death, beauty, violence...."'Seem like we're just set down here," a woman said to me recently, "and don't nobody know why."

  1. Me too! I grew up less than a mile from Tinker Creek.

    Best,

  2. I've never read that. Now I need to. And that bird is utterly beautiful!

  3. Elizabeth, someday I will come out to California, and we will walk and talk, you and I. I'll bring my DVD of Diva, and my well worn copies of Pilgrim at Tinkers Creek and An American Childhood.

I am always amazed when I answer the "Who are your favorite authors?" question with Annie Dillard & get the blank "Who?" look.

EVERYONE should know who she is, especially writers. Her prose is luminous, simply luminous. Thank you for conjuring her for me today.

  4. Yes, she's wonderful, like stepping into profound sanity...

  5. Something I need to put on my reading list. This is, I have to say, the most beautiful duck I have ever seen.

  7. Pilgrim is the book I keep always next in my treatment area. The stack changes, but Pilgrim is always there. It makes me feel less alone, or more okay with m y aloneness.
