Claudia

This is my niece, Claudia, when she was about two years old. She had gotten into my sister's powder and was caught in the act. I'm busy cleaning up my desk and the million papers and photos that I have squirreled away. I'd forgotten about this and thought I'd share it and brighten your day, too.

  1. If only the rest of us could follow her lead and dwell comfortably in our messes.

  2. Here is one of those parenting moments which "perspective" changes. I looked at this photo and first thought, We are looking at a future baker (thinking the powder was flour). Then I thought, How adorable she is! Then I noticed the expression on Claudia's face, and I began to hope that her mother (who had the presence of mind to take this adorable photograph) wasn't upset with her. If she had been my child, at that age, I might have minded the mess, but now? No way - life is too short to get upset about kids' messes! Perspective.

  4. The most adorable child ever in one of the best predicaments imaginable. It did brighten my day, thanks!

  6. My daughters when they were young also liked to get into my potions and lotions, especially when in the bath. Great photo, Elizabeth.

  7. So, so sweet. The look on her face, though! Poor little thing.

Do you remember the documentary series "Baby Human"? I think it aired on Discovery Health a few years ago (I remember watching it a lot when my son was an infant). One episode dealt with when guilt becomes a part of our psyche. It's usually around the time that we start to realize that the reflection in the mirror is US and not another small creature. Right about then, boom. This photo reminded me of that.
