A Study in Pink

Sophie looked exceptionally pretty last night in her pink tee-shirt and fabulous new headband. Henry and I tried for minutes to get a really good picture, one where she looked right at the camera. A few times she gave us her soulful gaze but not before the shutter opened and closed. She would have none of it.

After looking at the series, though, I think it's fine the way it is. No frills, nothing fancy or technically exemplary -- just pretty and pink.

  1. Yes. Pink is a very, very good color for Sophie.

  2. she is VERY pretty, in pink. a dryad, rather than a naiad, perhaps.

i've been loving your photos lately - oliver in the sunlight (and as vigilante), the turquoise falcon. they have the feeling of a retrospective, almost.

  4. Lovely - She is rocking that look.
Maggie and I went headband shopping the other day for something in a royal blue or just lighter than that to match her prom dress. The only thing we found has a wild feather on it a la Roaring 20s and it just didn't work for her. We opted for a $12 royal blue tennis bracelet instead.

When I get back from getting a crown on my broken tooth, I will post about that.

Crown!?! Hmm. Now I really will be queen.

  5. She is so soulfully beautiful. I love the festive touch of that headband. Also, I just read the piece your wrote about Sophie and Selkies in 2009, on her birthday. It was linked here. How extraordinary and wonderful.

Sending gentle hugs for Sophie. And for all of you.

  6. So cute! I see Henry's hand there trying to direct her to the camera. What a good brother.

Headband is perfect for her with that mass of dark curls surrounding it. She is the picture of femininity !

  7. She's so beautiful. Martha Beck wrote a book about raising her son, who has Down Syndrome, and how sometimes he reminds her of deeper truths, with his soulful presence. I think of that when I look at Sophie.

  9. Elizabeth, in the second photo she makes me think of a Mary statue. That calm, thoughtful gaze. She is just so lovely...all your children are just so lovely! (Obviously! just look at their mum!)

  11. Sophie looks beautiful in that color - it brings out the "roses" in her cheeks - and her headband is a lovely contrast with her wavy, lush brown hair.
