Rampage on the Summer Solstice
Nope, this isn't going to be a rant or an angry post. I read a bunch of daily words and inspirationals this morning, Buddhist thoughts and mantras. I even meditated. But as Sophie's humming wore on this morning, and I stripped her bed for perhaps the millionth time (she'd wet through, again) and I looked at the detritus of a school year lying everywhere, just everywhere, the adrenaline kicked in and I told Sophie to be quiet while I fix your breakfast. I got a white piece of paper and used a Sharpie to create the above sign and I threw out the Lego salt and pepper shakers that have been sitting on the windowsill in the kitchen for years, never used, and I didn't look behind me. I had a Kurtzian the crap, the crap moment and moved on. The Brothers sleep on, oblivious to the jungle that surrounds them, the Summer Solstice secure.
Laughing Song
When the green woods laugh, with the voice of joy
And the dimpling stream runs laughing by,
When the air does laugh with our merry wit,
And the green hill laughs with the noise of it.
When the meadows laugh with lively green
And the grasshopper laughs in the merry scene,
When Mary and Susan and Emily,
With their sweet round mouths sing Ha, Ha, He.
When the painted birds laugh in the shade
Where our table with cherries and nuts is spread
Come live & be merry and join with me,
To sing the sweet chorus of Ha, Ha, He.
William Blake
I think the reward should be: I will allow you to live.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just how I feel today.
I will do these things for a trip to Target :) I hope your boys help out and your day becomes lighter.
ReplyDeleteNothing sends me over the edge like accumulated detritus. And dust bunnies.
ReplyDeleteI could have written that exact same list.
ReplyDeleteExcept I ditched the bean bag last week after they were used as projectile weapons.
A trip to Target - what joy, after a job well done.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a boy I would be duly motivated by that reward! I hope yours were. And it is a true wonder of the universe that I never acquired a set of Lego salt and pepper shakers (although if I had, I probably would not have used them either. They would have been in Nigel's room :)
ReplyDeleteThe longest day is perfect for accomplishing those chores.
ReplyDeleteMy children are being awful right now. I just finished freaking out at them for being so damn lazy. I now have to tell my daughter for the second time to take out the recycling.
ReplyDeleteeBay those salt & pepper shakers! (If it's not too late.)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the clutter clearing and the motivational signage!
The Brothers sleep on, oblivious to the jungle
ReplyDeletethat surrounds them,
the Summer Solstice secure.
I needed a poem today and found it here.
xo
I hope, for everyone, you made it to Target!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good list to me, although I think I might want my reward to be for someone else to take all the kids to Target while I sit and read.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering for over a month now whether I shouldn't throw away the broken pieces of pottery I've collected because one day I may make a mosaic - for the last month, they've been sitting on our kitchen table, waiting for their destiny, while we eat, cook, study (state exams for boy#2), and sew in their company. Today, I'll do it, have a tidy(er) table and not look behind! :)
