I nearly missed my favorite poet, W.B. Yeats' birthday (June 13, 1865), but as the night gets darker, I'll pull down my collected poetry and dip in.
He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven
Had I the heaven's embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light.
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
William Butler Yeats
You can listen to Anthony Hopkins read it:
And if you're a real Yeats aficionado, check out

I'd read this one before and it never ceases to amaze me. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh this is lovely, so lovely, Elizabeth. And Anthony Hopkin's voice to Yeat's words: wonderful. I can feel and hear the feet as they tread on my dreams.
ReplyDeleteIt is a brave thing to spread our dreams beneath another's feet.
ReplyDeletehe shares my husband's bday... though my hubbie is not QUITE as old as Yeats :)
