My only nod to politics, this late in the game, or why I'm voting for "the retard."

Last night, Ann Coulter, one of the Republicans' top spokespeople tweeted the following:

I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.
Yeah, plenty of people who support Obama use the word retard, and I'd call each of them on it, if I heard it, but if someone's measuring the despicable shit that's been flung around on this election cycle, I feel certain the Republicans' vile combination of jingoism, family values, outright racism and condemnation of entire groups of people certainly tips the scale.

I don't want to live in an America that is populated by a majority of people who have voted for Romney, because I think their viewpoints on most social issues are repellent and not worthy of respect or tolerance.

I'm voting for Obama, or as the witty, patriotic, conservative Republican Ann Coulter said, the retard.

Enough said.

  1. Yes. That is it exactly- not the one chosen but the thoughts and values and lack of everything I hold true and right in those who choose.

    1. I'd prefer to restrain my sarcastic side, Colleen, but I can't imagine why you'd question whether Ann Coulter said it or not. I'm not someone who would make a story up, particularly about the word "retard."

    2. I think it was not a real question of validity being asked - it was kind of like how I have had to check some of the incredible crap that's been said during this election - it's very plausible & in a way, not surprising, but still. Wow.

    3. Yes, Jenny S-A -- I was just so literally spitting mad about this all day that my first reaction was disbelief that someone would think I'd make it up! And so, I apologize Colleen if your intent was also disbelief!

    4. Sorry Elizabeth... It was total and complete disbelief that she said it...and unf. some concern about how low this political scene can go (not that you were reporting it incorrectly)... and your post was the first I'd heard of it.... now of course it is ( fortunately) everywhere... thx for updating me from under my rock!

  3. It never ceases to amaze me how inured we as a population can become to the hatred and vitriol that gets thrown around in the name of competition.

If for that reason only, I can't wait for this election to be over and done with so we can go back to the standard nastiness we employ on a daily basis.

  4. Ann Coulter thrives on the moral outrage of people; outrage brings her the attention she seeks. No matter what we say or do, you can never change a psychopath...there is no conscience to be tapped!

  5. Ann Coulter. I feel a little sick just typing her name.

  6. I hate that word. Retard. Especially when used as a noun. Awful and hurtful.

  7. I LOVE your blog Elizabeth. Just in case you haven't seen this yet, here's a great response from a wonderful young man with Down syndrome. I try not to even think about Ann Coulter or her ilk at all, but then she says something like this and her image creeps back into my brain. She never ceases to show that she can continue to go lower in her greedy and self-serving drive to light up the twittersphere. Sad, sad woman.
