Egypt in Los Angeles

The Great Pyramids

The Nile

Tell me when you get bored by The Plumbing Troubles 2014. Or maybe don't tell me because I'm hard put to come up with something else to share here on the old blog, two days into the new year. I have a scratchy throat and that tingly feeling of being sick, there is Christmas clutter to put away, and there are bills to pay and teenagers to drive around. There is CBD to administer and waiting for miracles. I am still reading The Goldfinch and A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. I would like to see the movie with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, but I'd like more to see the Italian one The Great Beauty. I think this year will cement my new aversion to the hoopla of BIG movies with mega-stars and millions of dollars spent and made. Perhaps it will cement my proclivity toward pretension in film, but hopefully not. You can call me on it when you like, right after you tell me that you're bored by the documentation of The Plumbing Troubles 2014. It all comes full circle, no?

Reader, what is happening in your parts?

  1. You know I thought you looked like Cleopatra.
Praying to the home repair project gods that this is over soon.

  2. I enjoy your blog so much. I love the honesty and the beauty. I have a handicapped son. He is not as severely disabled as Sophie but enough that I can empathize. I too have gone from rage to despair in 10 seconds upon getting a letter from Social Security or the insurance company or the school system. I do not know much about poetry and am surprised at how much the poems you put you your blog touch me. My New Year's resolution (your influence here) this year is to explore the world of poetry. I thought after reading your blog silently for so long, I would just like to say thank you.

  5. I have not seen a really really good movie in such a long time, except for Frozen, which I loved.

  6. I can not remember the last time I saw a movie in the theater...maybe I'll have to remedy that in 2014. I see the Nile in your back yard and I wonder...what of the trees? Will their roots be damaged? I hope your scratchy throat goes away soon. We've got a big sister with flu here, so we're all on high alert to try to keep it to her!

  7. I wouldn't wish plumbing problems like this upon my worst enemy. I really do want to see August, I never saw the play. I agree with Lisa that Frozen was great. I can't stand pretension, but I wouldn't fault you for indulging in it.
