Cannabis Oil Questions Answered, #1 in a Series

How does Sophie take her medicine?

Charlotte's Web, as we receive it from Realm of Caring California, is an olive oil-based high cannabis/low THC product that we draw up from a small, dark bottle in a simple syringe (needle-less) and put in Sophie's mouth. It smells, sometimes, a bit like classic weed but is relatively flavor-less, and Sophie has no problem swallowing it, three times a day. She has had a lifetime of swallowing pills and does that, sadly, like a pro, but there's nothing like giving her a medicine that actually works.

Reader, if you have any questions that you'd like me to feature here on the old blog, please leave them in the comments.

  2. I'm glad she can tolerate it by mouth. Do you know of families using it through the gtube?

  3. Deana: YES! There are many children who get their medicine/cannabis through g-tube. In fact, I believe that's how Charlotte began with it.

  4. I know some forms of marijuana can help with appetite. Does Charlottes Web do so for Sophie?

  5. Your Anonymous Reader: Thanks for your question! Sophie has always had an immense appetite, except for when she was on the drugs that caused anorexia (and there were many of those). That being said, despite that voracious appetite, she remained very, very thin. She has gained probably eight or so pounds since she started taking CW -- sometimes I wonder whether all those seizures just expended so much energy that it kept her really thin. In any case, I have heard reports of kids who've gained weight with CW.

  6. Thanks Elizabeth! Trying to learn all I can about medical marijuana as I am very interested from a legal perspective. The federal laws prohibiting transporting this very vital medicine across many state lines makes me crazy!

  8. what would the effects of this oil be if you were to take it? There was a story on our local news last night (Philly area) about a family who had moved to Colorado for their daughter (they are from NJ)and the mom said the dreaded "the first day she was a little stoned". I know you have stated that the concoction made is low in the psycho reactive properties and felt that this woman just put back any progress made to legalize this drug!
