Twitter Twitter Caregiver

Girl sleeping with mermaid

I had a thought that there should be a special Tweet area for caregivers to give voice to all the things that they wish they could say to someone but can't or observations about -- well -- everything.

All of the following have the right amount of letters for tweeting but will not be tweeted.

1.

My WheelchairCam was on continuously this afternoon at LACMA, recording stares. #dontstarepaparazzi

2.

Witnessing a hundred thousand seizures is not what breaks you. It's a faulty diaper and a pool of urine on the bedroom rug.

3.

The new CVS pharmacist asked me if I needed a consultation on the proper use of benzodiazepines.

4.

"We value you as a customer and are here to make sure you get the most value for your plan," says the letter from Assurant Insurance Company. #ismellbullshit

Caregivers, please feel free to reply with your own tweets in the comment section.

  1. Family likes retelling this one: Son has C. on his lap. I shout: Yikes, did you say she sneezed? Son: No, seized. I: Whew, that's a relief.

  2. God, I wish you would tweet these. They are brilliant, and people who don't know, need to know. And people who do know need to know you know their journey. Then again, maybe those who know this walk don't have time to tweet. Still. These say sooooo much with such economy. Such power. Such kick-in-the-gut truth.

  3. You are a wonder. The endless brilliant ideas that come out of your tiny little mother mind never cease to amaze me, nor does your economy of words that speak volumes.

    Love.

  4. I'm not a caregiver now, but I've been one and I know so well what you speak of. It's exasperating and exhausting.

  6. It isn't the round-the-clock care that breaks you, it's the people who act as if you are some kinda freak/saint for doing it. Especially care workers, who should know better. #dontpathologizecaregiving

  8. Also, you ARE a wonder. I would pay to sit in on that consultation with the new CVS pharmacist. Watch you school him on the proper use of benzodiazepines (insert rectally). Sorry. I really need to get my own blog.

  9. Tweet all these things! This is what twitter is for.

  10. Did you know that pharmacists get paid for those so-called consultations? Even if it is just going over your medications. They make a tidy little sum doing that.

    Now go and Tweet!

  11. Awww, #3.... I was recently pulled aside by the Tarhet pharmacist when I picked up Scott's 945th Valium refill. "Do you have any questions?" she asked me with her pointy little nose stuck high in the air. "No, he's been on it since birth.", I replied. "Does it work?" she asked. "No, we are anxiously awaiting July 1st when medical cannabis becomes legal in Minnesota." Her fierce gasp sucked the life force out of the soccer mommies waiting in line for their Valium refills and all their heads turned like dominos in our direction. I was soooo tempted to knock over a condom display with Scott's wheelchair as we got the hell out of there.... But have to be a good example of the sick and suffering... Wouldn't want people to think we're less than above board citizens.... Grrrrr
