I'm Astonished

I was reading a fellow blogger's post today and am left speechless. Astonished. Her blog and mission is great -- but this post is particularly meaningful to those of us with children with severe disabilities. I'm not sure how difficult it is to get the services she describes as available, but the array is SENSATIONAL. She is a resident of our northern neighbor, Canada.

OH, CANADA!

Check it out HERE.

And then tell me what you think.

  5. Hee, hee, ahem...Thanks for pointing folks toward my blog...and thanks for all the nice words. Yes, things can be very good in Ontario. I don't know what is available in other provinces. When I read other people's posts, however, I realize just how bad it is for many..and I have learned to complain less. The biggest problem we face now is waiting lists for these services. There are some parents left in the lurch because there are NO nurses. It's scary. (mind you, i am not fond of nurses). This is why my husband and I are fighting for a release of money legislated toward nurses, to be put to any type of caregiver chosen by the family. This will make a huge difference...and cost the government big bucks. Tough for them...they always have money to go hang out and kill people in foreign countries. There are too many families struggling with personal issues to fight, so we are doing it for them...hopefully. On the down side, if you can't handle the severity of the child's challenges, you have to give up custody to get help (then suddenly money appears out of nowhere!!). There are few if any actual places to put a child with severe disabilities...we were told mine would end up in a nursing home! It looks good on paper and could be great...we have to keep plugging away at it. Still, I know we are lucky.
