Corner View - CONTRAST

Today's Corner View theme is Contrast and our host is Dana.

THINGS THAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO AND AM EXCITED ABOUT:

1. This movie:

2. Reading the stacks of books that sit all over my house, steadily but surely, constantly:

3. Editing the first fifty pages of my book, finally, and sending to an agent. Know anyone?

4. Dancing with my son at the Mother/Son Cotillion at the end of the month

5.  Sunny winter days in Los Angeles when the rest of the country is freezing (no exulting in other's misfortune, just gratitude for PLACE)

THINGS THAT I DREAD AND AM NOT EXCITED ABOUT:

1. The Husband's insane Christmas season schedule of twenty hour working days and lots of grouchiness.

2. The impending need to find a high school for Sophie for next year. Good God.

3. Paying our property taxes (I might have to send the boys out to sell matchsticks).

Guilio del Tore

4. Having our respite benefits cut by Regional Center.

5. Filling out the forms to see if Sophie qualifies with a waiver for IHSS (in-home supportive services) and then waiting to see whether she qualifies.

6. Christmas letters from people whose lives are seemingly perfect.

  1. My heart leapt out of my chest especially at the husband's 20 hour working days. And finding the high school! Oh dear. I would be flipping. This is such a creative list with the pictures and all. I'm glad you have a big stack of books to look forward to.

  2. Liked this list.
And the book thing ... the reading and the writing.
    Sigh.
If I lived near you, I would love to spend time with Sophie. No forms or payment. But I don't ,so I'll hope for new and improved situations.

  5. I love all the visuals you placed in today's post. I especially liked the statue of the girl carrying the books. I wouldn't worry about the "seeming perfect lives." No one has a perfect life, some are just better about covering it up.

  7. I can help with "dread" number 2, high school! Three pieces of advice ... 1) Pick one without nurses 2) Pick one that does not give grades of any type 3) Be smart and ignore any advice a curmudgeon like me would offer.
    Great post / pictures!

  8. I love your list and oh, do I hear you about the high school placement. Rojo is only in 7th grade and it weighs on me like a lead blanket. At. All. Times.

  11. The movie looks fabulous. I love your hysterical photos. I wonder if Kate Hopper (mother words) would have ideas for you re an agent. Also, you could e-mail Vicky Forman (This Lovely Life) or Jennifer Graf Groneberg (Road Map to Holland). Their blogs are easy to find with a search.

And I have a similar obsession with books. My husband will have heart failure if another amazon package shows up at our house.

  14. the cool thing about your study of contrasts is the balance ..... for instance .... the christmas letter thing is a real poke in the eye - but your son in a suit waiting to dance with mom is worth all of it :)

  16. wow... forget about the book and the excessive working, the high school for sophie is what would freak me out. it would drive me to drink. literally. hang in there. i wish i could offer fine words of wisdom, but anything i could say would likely be trite.
i'm taking a deep breath for you.
    all things are possible.

  19. all the best, it seems some rough times are ahead but I love how you mentioned the positives prior to the negatives. way to go. all the best to you and yours.

oh yeah, almodóvar's last is not as good as some other of his films but really fun (and I've you're a long-time fan you'll find little homages here and there! enjoy!)

  24. I love this posting about contrasts. You have so much good going on, and so much of "the other stuff," too. I'd like to - someday - understand, in some deep, inner way, that it's not my job to get rid of "the other stuff." That stuff is part of living...everyone's life has it, even those annoying Christmas-letter writers! How about the Alumni Notes section in your college magazine? Mine is full of such bragging. (Maybe it's time to pull out the Mason Williams poems again..."How about them Christmas writers, Ain't they cads? Writing all the good stuff, leaving out the bads...")

  25. I am digging your images and choices. Honest, soulful perspective as always. Did you read NeiNei's blog today about what the woman said to her in line at the grocery store? What is wrong with people. It made me weep.

  28. ohh, congrats on the book and getting to dance with your son (who looks so very grown up in those fancy clothes).

(for sure, nobody has a perfect life. lift the rock, and we all have the love, the heartbreak, and the longing that bring us to our knees, though maybe not as quickly as you do.)

rooting for sophie to get into that school and lift that particular weight off of your shoulders.
