God Willing and the Creek Don't Rise

What my mother always told me**

I went to see Dr. Jin last night and felt a tiny bit better when I went to bed last night, but I'm still feeling like sh**t this morning. Maybe I'll feel better as the day goes by.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

Oliver might have a good day at school, today.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

Sophie might not have any big seizures this evening while we eat dinner.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

Someone will appear on my doorstep with a quart of chicken noodle soup and say that they're here to take care of everything for me today.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

The gun nut advocates will back down and decide that owning a big ass gun and thousands of rounds of ammunition will not protect them from intruders or having their liberty stolen by the government.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

The state of Mississippi won't close the last clinic where women have some semblance of reproductive freedom.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

**Put on a little lipstick. You'll feel better.

God willing and the creek don't rise.

  1. I believe in the lipstick cure myself.

Can't say nuthin' about the rest of it.

  2. Around here we say, "Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise."
    Same-same.

  4. I've always wondered about that expression. What if the Lord wills it but the creek rises anyway??

  5. I feel I may need to bring this expression to my small slice of England - very apt!

  6. I learned the lipstick cure from my Mom when I was a babe on the knee

Ditto to all of the above and hoping that chicken soup comes knocking on your door

  7. Biffle's family had a much more negative version of that: "Spit in one hand and wish in the other, and see which one gets full first." Hmm.

    I prefer your family's!

  8. I think the entire West Coast either has been sick in the past week or is getting sick from the family members who were sick before them. Oy. Here's hoping both of us feel better soon! xo

  9. i love that expression, altho i say it as: god willing and the crick dont rise.

one of my mother's that i particularly like is: good god in a boat!

and of course, my own personal more "modern" all-purpose expression, from dorothy parker: what fresh hell is this?

    feel better, dear.

  10. If I lived in your neighborhood (hell, state), I'd be right there with chicken soup today. In lieu of that, I'll leave you with an expression Bubba's Arkansas-raised grandmother used to say, "I hope you're luckier 'n a two-peckered goat today."

    Love.
