Ask me if I care about Anthony Weiner

I don't.

Nor do I care about the Senator from South Carolina who went yodeling in the mountains with his one true love. Nor the other senator who used weird foot movements in the airport bathroom to signal his homosexual urges. Nor the president who was seduced by a girl in a g-string or the one who procured prostitutes on his day off.

I do care and find it very irritating that people do care, that they want to know what these people do, why they do it and how.

Reader, do you care?

  1. That would be a big f-ing no.

I also don't care about the Royal Baby, either.

Don't get me wrong. I wish His Highness Prince George well. I just don't need an alert on my phone every time he poops.

  2. No, I don't care about their private lives - unless they are liars. Lying matters, and it's usually not confined to one area.

  3. I am with Karen. The lying matters if they are in positions to create laws which can govern people's actions when theirs are so boldly flawed. And yet, I must admit, it didn't bother me when Clinton lied. I, like so many of these flawed individuals, am a hypocrite at heart.

  4. I don't, actually. I do care if they are duplicitous, or if they are hypocritical, e.g., said senator with homosexual leanings voting for anti-gay legislation. Otherwise, not so interesting. And really, are we surprised that these men who lust for great power have libidos to match? I've always wondered why people are shocked.

  5. Weeellll......I do have a rather irresistible urge to click on those headlines. I think I'm searching for the why of it all. Why married men cheat and destroy their careers and their marriages. Why the women in their lives stay with them or why they don't. Five years after the end of my marriage, I can be sucked into all of this. Why? I want to know. Why? How does a perfectly wonderful person become a cheating shit--or were they always creepy and hiding it, and was the wife lying to herself about who she married? I do choose to give it a rest though--after the second or third article. For my own sanity.

  6. If you only knew how much I don't care you might be surprised. In fact, it all makes me want to load up my little 1954 Bellwood trailer and escape it all...except then I would not how Sophie is doing...and I do care about that.

  7. I couldn't care less. Nor could I care less about the Royal baby's gender, name, lineage or size upon birth. I prefer my elected officials to be good at listening to their constituents and doing their jobs. It makes no difference to me who they are having sex (or sexts) with unless it's illegal. In the same vein, though, I don't care about any celebrity's life in the slightest, but I am often shocked at how much I am in the minority when it comes to this.

  8. I don't and I assume all male politicians act out in some way or another. As long as they can get the job done, I don't care.

  9. Dave and I were just talking about this last night. I don't care much -- but I do think Weiner's behavior suggests a worrisome tendency toward dishonesty and impulsiveness. I defended Clinton because he was so clearly the target of a Conservative scheme to entrap and impeach him. (Remember Linda Tripp and her tape recorder?) In Weiner's case, he's doing it all voluntarily, even while he says he's "a new man" or whatever.

Still, I would vote for him, if I thought he was the best choice policy-wise.

  10. I kind of care. I think Anthony Weiner's behavior goes to character and his ability to govern himself. If he can't govern himself, I dont know that I trust him to govern a city. And while I don't care what he does in his private life, given that he chose to reenter public life, his private life amounts to major humiliation for his wife, Huma Abedin, who I think should be the one in that marriage running for mayor. But deep down care? Like I cared about the last presidential election? Like I care about how deadlocked Congress is in the name of blocking Obama? Nah. Dont care that much. It's a sideshow.
