The Anti-Super Bowl Party

Both my boys are off to a Super Bowl party at a friend's house which lets me off the hook from even listening to it from another room. I just made some lentil soup with kumquats, so I'm inviting you over to have a bowl of soup and some crusty bread. I've got a copy of Fruitvale Station and a Netflix copy of The Intouchables -- take your pick -- and some beer, bourbon or wine to drink. It's a blustery day here in Los Angeles, a tad overcast and temperatures around 60, so when you want to go for a walk, we can do that, too.

Oh, if you're one of those people that enjoy watching the billion dollar industry of violence and brain injury, or claim you love the commercials, and you think I'm just a stuck-up snob eating lentils and kumquats, I've bought some Velveeta, a can of Ro-tel and a bag of tortilla chips and plan to make a bit of that for Sophie and me.

Reader, let me know if you're coming.

  2. I couldn't find Velveeta anywhere in my store. I had to settle for making quinoa maki rolls. Thank goodness!

  3. I for one don't partiuclarly carre fo rlentils, but I don't care for the Super Bowl either. The brain injury issue was on the news here in the Netherlands. Yes, I live htere, so I really don't need to bother with t he Super Bowl, but well, I'm virtually with you.

  4. I'd sure sit down to a bowl of that soup, crusty bread, and a few glasses of wine. I'd like to start with bourbon and branch water. The Intouchables would be my choice. Is there anything for dessert?

    Best,
    Bonnie

  6. I'll be there, a walk without ice sounds wonderful. A glass of wine. All good.

  7. I'll be bringing my own vodka (do you have a lemon peel?) and extra chips and Velveeta and Ro-tel. Never too much of that. I'll throw a key lime pie and a Mississippi Mud Cake together and bring those too.

  8. Intouchables, love. Haute Cuisine, a must see. Feel quite the same about Super Bowl. Melissa and the kids just headed home from Jalama State Beach. I am staying one more night to brave the storm from my cozy cabin, The Albatross. They left me The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Back-up, I have The Golden Notebook to keep me busy. Or, laptop, iphone, or ipad. And for old school hands-on creativity, sketchbook, watercolors, pen and ink. And finally, Yoga for Tennis Players on dvd so that "my body is strong, my mind is at peace." Oh, a bottle of beautiful cabernet to keep me warm. Teri

  16. Oh I WISH... so badly! For the food and the good weather secondary (we're barely scraping 20 degrees for the past month) and the company most of all :)

  17. This is my punishment for reading late - I spent Sunday tending to a small child's GI issues and avoiding eye contact with the stack of paperwork on my counter. Confession: I did enjoy the puppy commercial, very much.
