My Favorite Bob Dylan Song and a Photo of The Brothers

Love Minus Zero, No Limit

My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful
Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can’t buy her
In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love she speaks softly
She knows there’s no success like failure
And that failure’s no success at all
The cloak and dagger dangles
Madams light the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
Statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge
The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Bankers’ nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows cold and rainy
My love she’s like some raven
At my window with a broken wing

  1. When I read those lyrics, I don't hear Bob Dylan -- I hear Joan Baez. That just happens to be the version I learned.

    Great photo!

    1. Weird -- I can't recall that song being sung by Joan Baez. I'll have to look it up.

  2. There is no one like Dylan. And I love him for still howling his poetry into the night on the road, year in and year out.
Your boys. My Lord! How do you stand the gorgeosity of them?

    1. Sometimes I'm grateful that they're so gorgeous because they drive me nuts. And Bob Dylan? I don't believe anyone else has ever written songs quite like his -- really no one.

  3. That photo of your boys is a precious marking of a particular moment in their lives. Henry's uber cool. Oliver's little brotherness, energy almost bursting. I adore this photo of your boys. Their goodness shines.

    1. Ah, yes. You've captured them exactly with those words. And I'll add that they'll be the death of me.

  4. What joy, seeing the healthy handsomeness of your boys, and the intelligent humor in their eyes.
Thank you for the poem by Bob Dylan - I don't know it and enjoyed reading it.

  5. Love, love, love. The boys' expressions and body language speak volumes and that song! Oh, that song. Just what I needed this morning. Thank you.
