Cups

You shine, like a sunflower.

I'm stuck.

I need to divest myself of junk, both proverbial and otherwise.

I have too much stuff.

We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves
over and let the beautiful stuff out. Ray Bradbury

  1. I love that quote. And yes, we all have too much stuff. When I left my husband I bought a small condo on purpose and left with almost nothing. I have virtually no storage so what you see is what you get. It's hard not to collect stuff in our culture though. We are programmed to shop. When I feel bad I go shopping but instead of buying now, I hold something and wander around the store until I lose interest in it, not long usually, and then put it down and leave. We are told that stuff will make things better, make us happy but it doesn't. Anyhoo:) Hope you have a good day. The sun is shining and I'm off to work shortly.

  2. Well, you know, we used to be hunter/gatherers. We still are. But the things we gather tend to last longer than the things our foremothers gathered. They gathered berries and herbs and roots and things to weave into bags to carry these things. They probably picked up a rock here and there or a seashell and after about fifty years they looked around and thought, "What the hell was I thinking? Why do I have all these rocks and seashells?"
    Maybe.
Good morning from Lloyd, Elizabeth. Thank you for that beautiful quote.

  3. I'm not much of a shopper or acquirer and I constantly shed things, and yet I still feel like I have too much stuff. It's the modern curse. Better than bubonic plague or leprosy, I suppose.

  4. It is funny how, once we start getting rid of things (even things like sugar), it allows us to see so much more clearly all of the things we have held on to that don't serve us. I sometimes fantasize that I have a completely empty home in an alternate universe that I can travel back and forth to where, instead of throwing away the things in my current home, I can simply transport only the things I love to populate my other home and start again. The other way seems like way too much work.

  5. I love Ray Bradbury. And too much stuff is the name of a Berenstein bears book we love :)
