I Put A Spell On You

I put a spell on you because you're mine.

Screamin Jay in the car and I'm thousands of miles away in my mind, a movie theatre, black and white film, the Hungarian girl and the man with the huge nose, the back of their car, someplace embedded in snow and then light or was it the other way around? This song. Nina Simone then in my mind. Both of you in my mind and I'm back in my car and up ahead something glitters. A flash of light that makes me blink, look away, blink and open and in that space it's an angel's wings on the back of a truck and the light bends as the truck moves (is it a movie shoot?) but it's only (only?) the sun glinting off a rake in the back of a gardener's truck. Stranger Than Paradise. Everything is all (only?) in your mind.

Saturday Soundtrack

This morning when I tried to put on an earring, it was as if the hole in my earlobe had closed up overnight. I kept poking and pushing the thin band of gold wire to no avail so I finally gave it a rest. Later, I tried again and it slipped right through. It made me think of holes in the heart and resistance and mystery and age and surrender.

Someone posted this on Facebook today, and I can't get it out of my head.

Blueberries stain the floor on Mondays, but it's a new world

William Blake

So far, it's about 11:20 in the am and the refrigerator/freezer has already broken and been fixed by a very nice man; I've mopped the floor where the bag of blueberries fell out as I was emptying the freezer and stained it, two loads of laundry are in and out, Nina Simone is singing her song (thank you twisted knickers), and I've filled out some camp forms for Oliver. Summer is coming, I think, which is a good thing because I'm really tired of pumping these boys of mine up each morning to do their best. Nina Simone says it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, and I'm feeling good. I'm not sure I feel as good as Nina Simone because I need to do a whole lot of stuff, still, but dragonfly out in the sun you know what I know, but this old world is a new world --
