Virgo (August 23 to September 22)

I think I'm celebrating my fiftieth birthday until the Virgoan era is over on September 22nd. Today, my dearest in the whole dear world took me to an amazing brunch at an amazing restaurant. I drank a Bloody Mary and a glass of champagne.

I broke my no-sugar fast (one week successful and I will begin it again tomorrow) and nibbled on an amazing pecan cinnamon bun or danish. I ate ground sirloin with a fried egg on top and the most delectable jus (not juice) I've ever tasted.

I opened presents -- incredible presents, really. Art and jewelry that is art, poetry magazine subscriptions, and a purple purse to die for. I laughed myself silly and cried a bit, too. When the time came for blowing out the candles, and I was just about to do it, Cara yelled, "Wish BIG!" and I stopped and everyone stopped singing and then I took another deep breath and wished

SO

BIG, that you couldn't possibly know what I'd wished.

Well, maybe you could imagine.

It was the most perfect morning a fifty year old woman could possibly have, and I just can't possibly do it justice -- or these women who bless my life.

Virgo

Henry and Sophie, Hilton Head 2010

Virgo:
You could use a bit more faith. Instead
of working hard to clear a path, believe that
the path before you is already being cleared.

That was my horoscope in today's morning paper, over which I glanced and then paused. I threw up the shackles at the word faith, and then I thought hmmmmmm and wondered if I let go of my current path of worry and doing (Oliver's troubles, Sophie's seizures, filing for guardianship for Sophie and SSI, how and when and whether to go to Vancouver for Sophie's drug, the path is long, seemingly endless) what might happen? Is that a path of sand or boards? Is it clear to the ocean or are those weeds? Who and what is clearing it for me?

I'm giving it a try -- at least for the moment which, I imagine is all we can possibly do.

Too Much Information

Virgo the Virgin

I'm generally not a blogger that reveals anything about sex (I'm a virgin), marriage (I've had two) or incontinence. Yesterday, though, in a torrent of words, if not creativity, I revealed that I had wet my pants -- a tiny bit -- two times in one day in the parking lot of the Grove, our large Disneyfied outdoor mall. I want to assure my more decorous readers that I've not jumped a line and will now start writing about my private parts with any regularity. But I wanted to clarify several things.

  • I've had three cesarean sections (immaculate conception, since I'm a virgin, see above), so I can't blame my incontinence on that (in fact, given my virginity, things are -- well -- as tight as a drum)
  • I have a tendency to idiotically not go to the bathroom when I need to go. There's that moment when you absolutely have to go, but if you can steel yourself and hold on (and you're still a virgin), that moment passes. The trouble with this technique is that it doesn't account for one hour of wandering around a large parking lot. The moment passed yesterday, and then it came again -- in other words.
  • Given the above (the three cesareans, the fact that I'm a virgin and things are intact, and that sometimes I idiotically think myself a camel), I'd say that I don't really need the Poise pads. What I might consider, though, is wearing some Maximum Absorbency Garments (MAGS), a la astronaut style.

Consider that the only too much information post you'll get for quite some time. Now I'm back to my regular programming.

Rainy Day in LA Horoscope for Virgo

You long for a resting place to catch your breath as inevitable changes increasingly infringe on the status quo. You might try letting down your guard today only to be surprised when someone does something totally unexpected that prompts you to question your assumptions and your conclusions. Be smart and don't let yourself get attached to your expectations. Your best strategy is to roll with the waves of change until they settle back down.
