I want to unfold

Sophie and I, 1995

I want to unfold
I don't want to stay folded
anywhere, because where I am folded,
there I am a lie.
And I want my grasp of things
true before you. I want to
describe myself
like a painting that I
looked at closely for a
long time, like a saying that
I finally understood,
like the pitcher I use every day,
like the face of my mother,
like a ship
that took me safely through
the wildest storm of all.

Rainer Maria Rilke

  1. Rilke and Yeats ... you have excellent taste in poets.

  2. PS. I love that photo. You look like you stepped out of a painting.

  3. What a poem...that gave me goose bumps as I read...your photo is as Mary said, Madonna and Child.

  4. What a stunning photo of the two of you! The poem, something I had never read before, seems to be what you are saying in that photo!
    Beautiful and transparent!

  5. A beautiful picture and a beautiful poem. Thanks for posting them both.

  6. I can smell the sweet baby hair smell

The new way of origami is to learn the pattern by unfolding the paper and studying the creases

  7. you are the perfect unfurling.

  8. I was too distracted yesterday to read and comprehend this - so I came back again today. It is so lovely... I want to unfold, too...

  9. The exact phrase came to mind as Ms. Moon posted so I'll just say ditto.

  10. What a gorgeous photo! I love the serenity on your face and it fits with the feeling of the poem.

You are a wonder. Thank you for making me like poetry.
