Caregiver Sandwiches and Who Lives Like This?!
Have I told you how much fun it is doing the Who Lives Like This?! podcast? Honestly, if I made money doing it, it'd be a dream job. My partner Jason Lehmbeck and I get to talk to the most amazing people and have funny (sometimes hilarious) informative conversations not just about caregiving and our unique situations but also about life itself. This week's podcast was with Laura LeBrun Hatcher. We covered a bunch of topics -- what it means to be a caregiver of a child with complex medical needs, "The Caregiver Sandwich" when you are taking care of a child with special needs and aging parents, genetic testing and grappling with diagnoses. Laura is a designer as well, the head of communications for the amazing advocacy group Little Lobbyists (did you know that they were instrumental in maintaining the Affordable Care Act last year?) and -- well -- the list goes on. I hope you'll listen to the podcast, leave a review for it and share it with your friends and family. I'll give you a prize if you come back here after listening and answer this question in a comment:
WHAT TYPE OF CHEESE WOULD I BE IN A CAREGIVER SANDWICH?
Here's the link to the podcast blog post where you can click and listen, too:

I've been in the Caregiver Sammie when my Parents were still alive and required a lot of Care as their health declined and dementia set in for Mom... while also raising the Special Needs Grandkids... and of coarse as my Aging Husband suffered the Traumatic Brain Injury it threw me back in the Sammie again. I think I feel like Swiss Cheese during these periods... so many holes to fall thru or try to repair so you have to be on your A Game all of the time. Never experienced the Genetic Testing thing, but have been thru many other Testings for The Force, the Aging Parents and my Husband over the years.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your "Who Lives Like This?" podcast! What a brilliant idea. It just occurred to me that after all these years, I have never heard your voice...it's lovely. I too have been a member of the aging parent, special needs children generation. oorah
ReplyDeleteI love that you are doing this podcast. Of course you are burrata - soft, creamy and delicious! x0x0 N2

DeleteYour's is now on my VERY short podcast list. Short because I'm picky, hard to please, and have no patience for bullshit blah blah blah :) It's awesome. xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteMichelle! Is that really you? It's so good to see your words and face. Have you been writing? I'm going to check to see whether your much-missed blog is up again.
DeleteI’m not much of a podcast person (yet) but your podcasts are extraordinary. I haven’t listened to this one yet but I’m especially looking forward to it, having been a bit of a Sammie myself for a while with multiple elder beloveds. I can imagine you love doing these podcasts. So much resilience and love in each one.
