That wasn't a backdrop, either. It was the real thing -- El Capitan and Half Dome. Magnificent. Here's another:
Here are some snowy woods (that we stopped by in the evening):
Whose woods these are? I think I know.
Oliver looked so cute all week, all bundled up. Honestly, you'd think he was half-Swiss:
Sophie wore -- and rocked -- a black turtleneck.
She also appeared in a pair of fantastic leg warmers:
Henry has morphed into a serious teenager and proved an elusive photo subject. Here he is in profile:
And here he is with red eyes:
Did you think this post was going to be about Yosemite and not photos of beautiful children?
That's the High Sierra Bloody Mary that I drank (and consumed) one afternoon at 2:00. The garnishes, as you can see, were outstanding: a whole carrot, big enough for a horse, a whole piece of celery, a sweet pickle, a pickled onion, a sweet pepper, a slice of lime and an olive. The salted rim was perfect, as was the spicy drink itself. I counted it as a salad and felt virtuous even when I lay down on my hotel bed, slightly drunk, in the late afternoon, with my children as witnesses.
The Husband? Were you wondering whether he came to Yosemite with us? He did come -- and we had the first family vacation we've had in many, many years. I'll post photos from my "real" camera later today and maybe tomorrow and maybe the next day. You'll see so much of Yosemite that you won't ever have to visit it yourself.
In the meantime, enjoy this:
My beautiful friend and travel companion extraordinaire, Cara |
Gawd. Your children are gorgeous. Can you believe how fast Henry is growing up?
ReplyDeleteYes, Yosemite is amazing and I can't wait to see more pictures but what I really want is one of those Bloodies. I think it would cure my cold. At least I'd probably be able to taste some of it.
I remember our first trip into Yosemite. Saint Saens' "Carnival of the Animals" was playing on tape (it was a long time ago) and I was overwhelmed at the beauty of the place.
ReplyDeleteI covet Sophie's leg warmers. It is 17 degrees this morning with a windchill of 2!!
Best,
Bonnie
Just so you know, I am really fun on trips like that.
ReplyDeleteGLORIOUS! Lola is intensely jealous that you got to see snow. Eve wants Sophie's leg-warmers, and I love that you consumed a liquid salad with a salty rim. Sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteare you kidding? do you think i could ever see too many photos of your beautiful children? the scenery is amazing but the children more so. (and btw that henry is looking more and more like a matinee idol every day.)
ReplyDeleteLove it. Post more!!! Will we ever get to see this mysterious husband of yours? :)
ReplyDeletewow - that is just so cool! only in california would you get a salad stuffed into your cocktail - that's what I would call a square meal :)
ReplyDeleteGlorious photos! Please post more! I have never been to Yosemite and appreciate seeing these beautiful pics. The mountain shots are breath-taking. So cool to see you and your children dressed in sweaters, stockings and hats...they are a handsome brood. I love your photo of your Bloody Mary Salad. Sure would have enjoyed having one with you, although I would be out cold. I am so glad you all took some time away to refresh, and am anxious to hear all about your adventures.
ReplyDeletewelcome back!! amazing photos with the camera phone - cant wait to see with the REAL camera!
ReplyDeleteI am a bit of a teetotaler but I must admit that bloody mary looks good, and your description of treating it as a salad and being buzzed in mid-afternoon: loved it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear more about the trip.
love the family photos. looks like you had a great time. lived vicariously through you, you know. you did know i lived in san francisco for ten years. not far from your neck of the woods. xo
