I'm posting on a new site, twice a month or so. It's called thesmartlyla, and I think you'll enjoy reading some really good writing from the other bloggers there as well as yours truly. My first post is up.
Let me know what you think -- if you haven't already ('cause I used a bit of some old posts to craft this one --).
Nice! Very cool site. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteWell said, Elizabeth. My husband and I had that same "something to rebel against" conversation some years ago. Our solution (he was Polish Catholic and I, Southern Baptist) was the Unitarian church where the boys learned about all the world's religions in a tolerant and non-judgmental way.

Great write, Elizabeth. I was born Catholic, then when my father died when I was 6, we went to non-denominational churches, then Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Unitarian and Assembly of God. I took my 2 daughter to church at the Assembly of God and taught children there for 6 years. I stopped organized religion when my girls left home for college. One of them is now Catholic (she converted before marrying her Catholic husband) and the other daughter attends no church.
ReplyDeleteI now consider myself a Seeker and a student of world religions. I've read the Bible 3 times and it blows me away each time. I study the Tao, the Koran, "Be Here Now" by Ram Dass, the I Ching (I even grew & made my own Yarrow sticks...how anal is that?), the Tarot, Kabbalah, and Zen Buddhism.
It amazes me how much each religionss writings have in common: love, honor your neighbor, forgiveness, compassion, kindness, etc. Would that we'd all concentrate on our similarities and not our differences. Blessings!
sweaty suede shorts and the ribbed wife beater shirt and I say a big "so what" about who you've been people watching - there's no hatred and judgment when I come over here to your place - just that the ace is an ace and the spade is a spade - so big deal
