What are you doing, Oliver?

I'm playing by myself, Mom, he replied, as he ran by, clad in camo pants and jacket, Nerf gun in hand. The helicopter circling overhead and the sirens in the distance, a normal scenario on a weeknight, lent a bit of eerie reality to the scene. But, it still seems incongruous, sometimes, that I'm the mother of boys.

  1. It seems so incongruous to me that there is a place that is not covered in snow, that is not so bloody cold.

  5. I fell in love with my 1st husband, an only child, when he told me how he played tennis alone, running around from side to side trying to playing as though he had a partner. I have to say, he became a heck of tennis player as an adult!

Oliver is fabulous. And I like your street, too, with its trees and sidewalks (and your stone walk).

  7. He is so incredibly wonderful to me that I lack the words to explain it.
Catching the rays as if the energy of the sun is all he needs to win his battle, fighting the invisible warriors, running after them. I hope you gave him some ice cream when he came in. A warrior needs more than rays to keep up the good work.

  12. My daughter walked in as I was chuckling over just the title of this post, and asked what I was laughing about. I told her that you had written a post about Oliver, and just reading the title made me anticipate a funny story... he's VERY stealth in those photos : )
