Henry and I went to our neighborhood village (yes, we have a village in our neighborhood, right smack in the middle of the Big City) this afternoon, and he got a haircut and I went to the bank and then we sat at Peet's and drank goofy coffee drinks. Oliver is in daily rehearsals for the musical OLIVER! and I admit that it's kind of nice to go out with the eldest son and just hang out. Bless that youngest boy's heart.

That's all I've got for this afternoon. I'm heating up leftover pork tenderloin in some kind of creamy mushroom sauce that The Husband made, Sophie just had a big seizure in her room while playing with her beads (overstimulation?) and it's very gray and very cold outside on this February night. I have to read gigantic federal grants because I'm on a review panel next week, and this post is a way to forestall the inevitable, so thank you for your time.

  1. It is so nice to be able to spend one-on-one time with our children.
Henry is just, well, I know he makes you proud to be his mama. Is he as delightful as he looks? And Oliver is getting to do his special thing which is wonderful too.

  2. thumbs up on the haircut! it was getting rather long....

he looks like a cheeky thing, with his coffee and all.

  3. Isn't it funny how teenagers drink so much coffee these days? When I was a kid, NO ONE drank coffee except wizened old adults. But Starbucks is full of teens now.

  4. love the haircut!! i also love when we can grab one-on-one time with our kids.

  5. This post makes me think that maybe I am finally a grown-up, as marked by my waning love for goofy coffee drinks.

  6. Henry is a handsome dude. I love the fact that Oliver is in the musical "Oliver." I hope they gave him the title role!

    1. I'm actually thanking God that Oliver doesn't have the title role as the work involved in putting this thing on is intense! He is one of the orphans, so he appears quite a bit in the play -- maybe one day he'll play his namesake!

  7. Love the haircut! It is so great to be able to hang out with one at a time! I can't even begin to imagine the laundry list of things I'd rather do than read grant paperwork. You are a stronger woman than I.
