What to do before driving to Manhattan Beach for a lacrosse game
Lie in bed and read Roz Chast's new graphic memoir Can't we talk about something more PLEASANT?, laugh your fanny off, periodically text a couple of friends and continue to laugh your fanny off, wake the still-sleeping teenager at noon and inform him that he needs to begin his toilette in order to make the lacrosse game in Manhattan Beach, continue reading Chast's brilliant and brilliantly funny memoir (how does anyone manage to convey so much emotion and life with a bunch of brush strokes?) and post a selfie of yourself with your vehicle, a sexy white Mazda that is really your better half.

You and your Mazda are both looking sexy today. I will be taking my teenager, who does not sleep until noon, to neighboring El Segundo later today.
ReplyDeleteI just got out of a Toyota van which held two of my daughters, two grandsons and me. We drove to a lake and went swimming. It is NOT a sexy van but it holds all the shit.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you look gorgeous.
Roz Chast is awesome.
You look beautiful in this pic. My teenager who is less than two months from 20 has just this summer finally started rising before noon.
ReplyDeletethis photo of you is ravishing.
ReplyDeleteThat ocean blue is definitely your color!
ReplyDeleteYou are stunning. And I try to drive my son's sexy red Mazda as often as possible.
ReplyDeleteDoes the Mazda still go "hmmmmmmm"?
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
My husband and I lost all 4 of our parents before our oldest daughter turned 16. Roz Chast's novel was therapy for me. I felt like she had lived in our home and known my mother-in-law (as she quoted her verbatim). I just listened to her interview on Fresh Air. btw, Our 3 teenagers are loving summer and I am so happy we all are not getting up at the crack of dawn. Thanks for writing!
ReplyDeleteI love Roz Chast. She's one of the best things about The New Yorker.
ReplyDeleteHey, I don't think that Mazda is the only sexy thing in the picture ;) (saying that purely platonically by the way!!) Sleeping til noon... ahhh, I remember those days so well!! :) ...wistfull sigh....
ReplyDeleteHey gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe driving, the driving, the driving. I remember it.
There was an excerpt of the Roz Chast piece in the New Yorker a while back. It was fabulous and I somehow did not realize it was a longer piece!
Keep your hands on the wheel.
