Dispatch from the Revolution: Homeschooling Commences

photo via vignettedesign

Today, Oliver and I have officially moved from de-schooling to homeschooling. On the schedule today is a bit of Dutch and Spanish history, vocabulary and writing exercises. We'll also be traveling to the valley to a music store where we'll hopefully rent a saxophone. Oliver has requested lessons for the sax for years, and I've always felt his schedule was too overwhelming to take on an instrument. I found a very inexpensive place for him to take lessons, so we're giving it a whirl.

Bring on the Charlie Parker!

  3. May I request Oliver's rendition of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" when he's ready?

  4. Speaking as a saxophonist myself, GO OLIVER!! I think music lessons are one of the greatest opportunities that you can provide to a child.

  5. He is going to blossom...do boys blossom? If not, he's going to do whatever the equivalent of blossoming is for Oliver!

  7. I keep saying this (but it deserves repeating) - Oliver is being given such a gift by you right now. To love him and know what he needs and to provide that to him. Such a gift. This is the kind of thing that a person looks back on later is life and knows was the point in there life that changed it all. I really believe that for Oliver. Good job mom!!

  8. Oh boy. I'm glad for Oliver and his new musical opportunity -- but I hope you build a soundproof studio where he can practice. :)

  10. You are homeschooling?! Because you didn't have much else to do? That was sarcasm. Damn woman, you amaze me. And I'm picturing Oliver as Lisa Simpson playing the sax.
