I took the kids today to Descanso Gardens, just outside of Los Angeles. Despite cloudy skies, the place was divine -- so full of flowers and scent and peaceful vistas that our ornery selves were somewhat restored.
What Mary and Deb and Andrea said. The flowers made me so happy, and the picture of Mr. Cool with his arm around his sister - I have no words for how beautiful that one is or for how it affected me. Thank you for all of it.
An idyll, indeed. There is something about flowers that lightens my heart, non-gardener that I am. Wildflowers, weedflowers, hothouse flowers, cheapo bouquets at Trader Joe's - flowers are somehow like messengers from heaven. I think our children are, too. Looking at those photos, seeing your sons loving their sister, is nothing less than heavenly.
This post is one of the most beautiful and heart-sweetening things I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
I want to stick my face full on into those flowers!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for our flowers to start blooming...what a beautiful day you've had!
Wow...that looks spectacularly beautiful! Could use me some of that too.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh! These photos feed my heart. Thank you for inviting me to go with you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And it looks so NOT like Los Angeles. The trees look Californian but otherwise it reminds me of Savannah or Charleston.
ReplyDeleteGood call Mom. We could have used a day there today :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just everything.
ReplyDeleteHenry pushing Sophie's chair. Oliver holding Sophie. Such sturdy and tender care. You're doing it so right.
ReplyDeletethanks. i needed that.

ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous place to walk with the kids. It would restore me, too. Just the photos are restorative. I'll bet it smelled great!
ReplyDeleteThat picture of your son walking with Sophie about did me in.
ReplyDeleteOh, those lilacs! I can smell them now. Ours won't bloom for another few weeks, so I'm coming back to visit this page daily until they do. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!! I love the photo of Sophie sitting among the flowers. That would be my daughter too!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful sanctuary. I swear I can almost smell the flowers.
ReplyDeleteAn idyllic place indeed. Yet the beauty of your children walking in it exceeds the place itself...
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I can nearly smell the lushness. And your children are beautiful souls!
