I have a terrible cold and just watched the entire first season in the last 48 hours. Amazing. My favorite quote is from Cora and goes something like this: Daughters. You think it will be like "Little Women," but they're at one another's throats from dawn until dusk." Luckily those days in my own little kingdom were brief.
I am a fan of the show and of Maggie Smith. She brings a delightful ironic quality to her character, which in other less skilled hands could simply be a dour old woman.
oh oh oh oh!!!!! i just finished watching both seasons last night! LOVED it all. so lush and escapist. and the dowager, she had a ton of great quotes. some reviewers said she verged on parody, but i disagree, she was fabulous in the way she was who she was in all her political incorrectness without apology. did you see the season ender last night? of course i loved that the show mixed in the socio-political correctness too, through some of the characters.
i am once again without a series to watch, and on the hunt for another. i might try boardwalk empire. not sure.
Yeah. I agree.
ReplyDeleteMy MIL was just telling me to watch this last night. With lines like that I might...

Now, how could anyone in world disagree with that ... the older you get the more truth you see in that brief statement of reality (like me).

ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing was when Sir Richard said something like, we probably won't meet again and she said, "Do you promise?"
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the video called "Sh*t the Dowager Countess Says"? Fabulous - it started my day off with lots of smiles!

that was a good episode
ReplyDeleteI also liked it when she took the time to talk to Daisy when she found her crying at the fireplace.
what was it she said to Lord Grantham? "I found her tending the fire - and suffering"
Oh YES! Maggie Smith is so fabulous. I also loved it when she told Sir Richard, in answer to his threat to leave, "Do you promise?"
ReplyDeleteHave you seen SNL's "Spike TV" parody of Downton? It's hilarious.
