I bought the biggest pumpkin in the lot yesterday:

I decorated the house completely:

INSIDE

AND OUTSIDE:

I think I went over and above, frankly:

Oliver said, Mom I really wish you were the kind of mom who went CRAZY about Halloween. You know, like the mom on Modern Family.

Sigh.

This is what I looked like after that:

If I could have, I would have bitten him right in the neck.

  1. You have done more for Halloween than we ever did!

  2. I love that your kids consider that restraint. Moira and I talked the other day about a dream situation where you lived here. You'd fit right in. You should see what we do to this old gold mining town at Halloween. Around the Victorians (perfect for spider webs faux and real) is still too scary for my 6 year old. p.s. I screwed up my feedreader...if you were using that. Happy Halloween.

  3. I love it! Especially the pumpkin. I suggest a scary costume. Wear it when you wake your boys in the morning.

  5. I guess Oliver feels you could've done more? Ah, life as we know it for mothers.

  6. Well, I am pretty darn impressed! Love how that ghostly light falls over your Halloween set up.

Don't you love Modern Family, though?

  7. I think you should have bitten him on the neck. Just enough to remind him that you are indeed crazy about Halloween.

  8. Yeah, sometimes the holiday festivities just don't go over as planned, do they? I hosted a Halloween Happy Hour this past weekend. I cooked, and crafted like a Martha fiend. I decorated the backyard and patio, and had a signature drink - last year's hit of the party, Hot Buttered Apple Cider with Rum. Unfortunately, this year there was no cool fall weather, instead it hit 100 degrees on the day of my party. If I had to come up with one word to describe my party I would say, "sweaty."

  9. Ah, you crack me up!

I went back to college when my kids were in elementary school, and I'd get home from school just minutes before they did. One day my youngest told me that she wished I was the way I used to be when she would come home from school and I'd be wearing an apron and the house would smell of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. Now she appreciates me for having been a great role model. Hang in there, Halloween Mom! They'll grow up and thank you. Maybe.
