Natural History
The spider, dropping down from twig,
Unfolds a plan of her devising,
A thin premeditated rig
To use in rising.
Unfolds a plan of her devising,
A thin premeditated rig
To use in rising.
And all that journey down through space,
In cool descent and loyal hearted,
She spins a ladder to the place
From where she started.
In cool descent and loyal hearted,
She spins a ladder to the place
From where she started.
Thus I, gone forth as spiders do
In spider's web a truth discerning,
Attach one silken thread to you
For my returning.
In spider's web a truth discerning,
Attach one silken thread to you
For my returning.
I love spiders. I love the third picture!
ReplyDeleteAn anthropomorphized tree, and a visiting spider - how wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAnd this...this is why I cannot pull down the spider webs.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I think of spiders I will forever think of "Charlotte's Web" for that is how I want to envision a spider to be.
ReplyDeleteWe have a tree face too...perhaps I should share ours.
LOVE the E.B. White, but spiders still give me the creeps...
ReplyDeleteLife lines
ReplyDeleteA spider was building a web the other night outside our window. The kitchen lights attract the bugs to the window so there're usually a couple about - the Park Ave of spider-dom - but I'd never sat down at watched one at work. It was magical. Love it.
