Sophie has gone back to doing yoga with Limor, who teaches a special kind of yoga for children with special needs. She worked with Sophie for many years, and then we took a break as Sophie's seizures got out of hand, and we never knew if she'd have one or was sleeping one off. A couple of weeks ago, I decided that it was time, so Limor comes once a week and stretches with Sophie, helps her to breathe, sings to her and otherwise works her yoga magic.
If you want to hear more about Yoga for Special Needs and live in southern California, email me and I'll send you on to Limor.
P.S. I went back to yoga this morning, too, and not at the Y. I went to a Kundalini studio different than the one I used to frequent (the one where Russell Brand sort of took over) at the urging of my friend Nancy. It was fantastic. I feel as if a weight has been removed and something opened up. Thank you, Nancy. Thank you, dear body that allows me, still, to stretch and bend and breathe and smile.
Fantastic and yes to Yoga. I have never given it up. It would be like giving up water.

ReplyDeleteGlad you got your yoga as well. Kundalini is magical. xo
Such beauty. I mean really- what could be more gorgeous?
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me so happy.
ReplyDeletehope you can keep it up, both you and Sophie.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad both of you are getting your Yoga fix.
ReplyDeleteMy Albanian great grandmother used to remind us that good mental health relied upon our ability to stay mobile. She called it "moving the blood" She was 82 years old and we would get phone calls from our neighbors telling us she had climbed a tree in our backyard and was sawing down branches.
ReplyDeleteDitto Full Soul Ahead. You've inspired me to return to Yoga. No more excuses.
ReplyDeleteI hope Sophie feels as good about her return to yoga as you do. Every time I stop finding a way to fit yoga into my life, upon going back to it I ask myself what the hell I was thinking. It truly is a balm for the soul and the body. Glad you're back to it.
ReplyDeleteYES to Yoga! For as long as our bodies are able.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful these pictures of Sophie!
"Russell Brand sort of took over my yoga studio" might be the most L.A. sentence ever written. I get the idea that Sophie loves the yoga. I hope she does.
ReplyDeleteI got the Yoga for the Special Child book from the library probably six years ago, but I love it and wish there were trainings available closer by. I read the book cover to cover and *may* have photocopied the protocols, and I do them with children to this day. Someday I will be able to afford the official training!
